Award winning portrait artist, Susan Boone Durkee, is offering a special intimate workshops and classes, located at her beautiful  Studio in West Redding, Connecticut. The Studio is located in a peaceful inspiring environment, surrounded by beautiful gardens, on property once owned by the famous writer and humorist Mark Twain.

  Each workshop and class is limited to 5-7 students so all attendees will have very intense, personal and sensitive teaching.

Instruction and critiques, with caring guidance, will be given throughout the series, covering information on every phase of traditional painting. Students will learn how  to proceed and what to think about step by step while painting a portrait or still life

The  workshops are designed to help students improve their ability to express themselves and guide them to strive to paint with the highest standards of artistic quality. 

Particular focus will be on composition, drawing accuracy, attention to values, seeing warm and cool colors, and tips on working the edges. 

All levels encouraged.
  Classes will be limited in size, minimum 3 students maximum 7 students, so register early.



 

  Wednesday Portrait Workshops

Studying  the Masters of Portraiture. Copying from the Masters is an age old artistic discipline, which trains the eye and raises  artistic awareness. Students will have the choice to learn and copy from 2 of the finest masters of portraiture: Velasquez and John Singer Sargent...$450.00

 or

 A inspirational model with pose live for those students who want to paint directly for the live model...$550.00 for live model session

Portrait Workshops include presentations by the Artist and 20 x 16  prepared canvas

Saturday Still life Painting Workshops

Starting  Saturday October 15th-Sat Nov. 12th

5 Saturday sessions 9:30 am-2:30 pm

Students will work directly from an engaging still life set up or will have the choice of copying  a painting from two of the best masters of the still life and florals: Jean Simeon Chardin and Henri Fantin Latour . Coping from the Masters is an age old artistic discipline, which trains the eye and raises  artistic awareness.

Class size is limited to 3 minimum and 7 maximum. First come first served.

Information and Details:

 Wednesday or Saturday workshops are from 9:30 to 2:30, stop for lunch at 12:00.  Lunch is not provided, but a refrigerator is available for food storage. There will be portrait and painting presentations throughout the workshops.



Artist materials suggestion list for each workshop:

Easels, taborets and one toned 20 x 16 stretched, ready to paint, canvas will be provided, but students must bring their own supplies, see suggestion list below:


Assorted Filberts: #0, #2, #4, #6, #8
 (I prefer Silver Brush brand)
1 small #0 round brush
#4 fan brush
palette (paper, wood or glass)
paper towels and or cloth rags
 odorless turpenoid, odorless mineral spirits or Gamsol.  
Jar or can to clean brushes and plastic bag to store used towels or rags.
linseed oil
palette knife
Blue painters tape
OIL PAINTS:
Titanium White,
 Cadmium Yellow light,
  Cadmium Red
 Alizarin Crimson,
 Prussian Blue,
 Raw Sienna,
Sap Green,
Viridian,
 Burnt Sienna,
 Yellow Ochre,
Ultramarine Blue,
Ivory Black.
Retouch Varnish Spray can (Krylon Brand preferred)
2 small Palette cups
There will be storage space available for wet canvases
